Social Media, Nurse Navigators and Too Many Donuts!

Want to be a more aware nurse when it comes to social media and health care? That was the main topic in the first half of the show this week. We were lucky to have our regular podcast team joined by Rob Fraser, a Canadian RN, podcaster, and author who is very passionate about hooking health care professionals and their patients up with tools and online resources like those in social media sites.

We also chatted with the panel about nurses and strategies to avoid overworking and burnout as well as reducing medical errors. There was a recent study by the University of Maryland School of Nursing that looked at how workplace policies that have reduced injuries and accidents in the trucking and airline industries would have a positive effect on improving patient safety.

And, yes, the topic turned to donuts and those little baked and cooked treats that are brought in to work by our co-workers, patients, and visitors to share with us. Can we really be healthier, leaner nurses amidst the yummy clutter and donut boxes? Listen to our nurse panelists and their take on these stories in this episode.
